I always get asked by clients what they should wear to their family photo session, and how they should coordinate their outfits. Here is an example to give you an idea how everyone's clothes can be coordinated, without being too matchy-matchy.

This is how I found my kids when I woke up one rainy morning -- in a nest of pillows on the couch. My 7 year old is into the "Rainbow Fairies" books, and my youngest looooooves being read to.

It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I saw the two of them like this! So, of course I had to grab my camera and snap a few shots. :)

We had the pleasure of photographing the little ones with Santa for the second year in a row at Mothering Touch again this year. Even though last year's Santa photos were a big hit, we still had a much bigger turnout than we were expecting! As a result, I only had 1 or 2 minutes per child, so we had to work faster than ever! But we still managed to get lots of adorable photos, don't you think? ;)

I am so grateful and humbled that so many of you decided to participate. We collected over $1100 for Baby Eleonor! (She is the little girl in a purple dress in the first photo. She is fighting a very rare form of cancer.) My heart breaks for her and her family, and I am so thankful that I was in a position to help her family raise some money for her.

Family photo session on a crisp fall day {Victoria BC photographer}

You probably couldn't tell from these pictures, but it was a very cold Fall day on the day of this session! In fact, this was the day after it snowed in parts of Victoria, and snow was still covering the ground in places. (Victorians know how rare that is!)

Thankfully, with this family of troopers, we braved right through and had a great time despite the chilly day!

Santa photos 2011 announcement {Victoria BC child photographer}

We did Santa photos last year at Mothering Touch, and they were a big hit with all the families that came. Click here to see those pictures. We are doing them again this year, and we are going to have the same wonderful Santa! (Who is the best Santa in my opinion! :)

This year's Santa photos event will be a fundraiser. I will be donating my time for the photo sessions, while Mothering Touch will be collecting donations for a couple of local charities. Suggested donation is $5 per child.

What:

- photos of your little ones with the best Santa ever

When:

- Friday, November 25, 2-4pm. First come first served
(You will have your photos ready in time to make Christmas cards!)

Where:

- Mothering Touch store

Cost:

- suggested donation $5 per child, to help local charities

What you get:

- photo session with Santa - a few minutes per child
- 1 free web-sized photo to share on Facebook, email, etc.

- 1-3 edited photos to order from in an online gallery

- medium-resolution digital images (printable up to 5x7) will be

available at a special Holiday rate of $30

- $25 each for two or more digital images

This family has a little princess with the same name and energy as my own daughter. After the session was over, I got to talk to the mom a bit more, as we walked to our cars. Turns out, she and I also have lots in common!

We talked about our kids (of course!), and how we both keep journals where we write down all the cute little things they say and do, because we don't want to forget the tiniest thing about them!

Makes me feel better that I'm not the only sentimental mama in the world who does that! :)

Fall Family Fun {Victoria BC family photographer}

I first photographed this family about 1.5 years ago when mom was expecting her little princess, and then again around Christmas last year. (Click here for the link to their first session with me.) Needless to say, I was very excited when she emailed me again a few weeks ago and asked to have fall photos done.

I love watching how their family is growing and changing, and I loved seeing the kiddos again!

I had too many favourite photos from this session, it was hard to pick just a few!

I couldn't get enough of this family -- they are so fun, energetic, and truly a pleasure being around!

Throughout this whole session I caught myself thinking: "I want my family to be like this when my kids are older!" I love seeing this kind of genuine connection within a family. They're so naturally into each other -- that's beautiful to me.

Sisters {Victoria BC photographer}

Their mom contacted me to do a session with these two beautiful girls. The younger sister is a senior graduating from high school, and the older sister is leaving for Switzerland to study. The mom said the girls are very close... She couldn't have been more right! I could see it right away -- the way the older sister is so protective of her little sister, and the younger sister is very trusting of her older sister... I loved watching and capturing the dynamic between them for their mom!

They also wanted some photos of the younger sister in her prom dress -- and what a dress that was! Just gorgeous!!

As photo sessions go, this one didn't exactly go as I expected... There may or may not have been tequila shots involved. There may or may not have been smacking of bums and piggie-back rides and re-enactments of "Charlie's Angels." All I can confirm is that this family is most definitely A LOT OF FUN!!!

Thank you girls for a super fun session! I don't think my cheeks hurt this much from laughing in a long time!!

Sorry I've been MIA on the blog. I just got back from a much needed vacation with my family. I'm catching up with emails today, but wanted to share a session I had with this wonderful family a few weeks ago. This was a fun shoot, complete with "sword fighting" and many laughs!

Every time I have a photo session, I feel so privileged to be allowed into these families' lives for an hour or two, and to witness their love for each other. I feel so inspired, and am reminded to be present and to appreciate every moment with my own loved ones. Thank you to my wonderful clients for that!

Spring is around the corner! {Victoria BC photographer}

How lucky are we?!! We get flowers blooming here even in the winter! When we lived in Ontario, this was a tough time of year for me. By February I was sick of the winter, and couldn't wait for Spring! Of course, we still had March to get through, which always dragged on foreeeeevvvveeer!

Now, I feel the complete opposite. Very happy indeed!! :)

Calm and relaxed - a family at home {Victoria BC family photographer}

When you have two kids, one six year old and another one a newborn - life can be hectic. But it didn't seem like it when I came to this family's home for a photo shoot. The house was tidy and the kids were calm and quiet... It made me think, "Why can't my home and children be like this?!..."

You see, it's a good day when cereal is not on the kitchen floor and my 2yr old doesn't have jam on her face. So when the baby was relaxed and the 6yr old son was a perfect gentleman, I was a bit surprised. But hey - I'm not complaining!

This shoot was very laid-back and flowed without a hitch. Even their pets were cool! I wanted to take their kitty home with me.

As you can see from the photos, there was a serenity and calm about this family that was very refreshing. "Now if I could only get my 6yr old to keep her room that clean!"

Beautiful Couple - Maternity Session {Victoria BC photographer}

Being in love is beautiful. Being in love and expecting a new life to love - even more so. Look at this couple - I mean, really look at them. It's rare to see people as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside.

Not only were they beautiful, but they are the nicest, warmest people as well. They contacted me to do a session to celebrate their 6 year anniversary, as well as expecting their first baby! Can you imagine how gorgeous their baby is going to be?!

I love so many images from their session that I had a hard time narrowing down to just a few...

Hanging out with Santa {Victoria BC child photographer}

About a week ago I had the pleasure of meeting the best Santa ever, and got to photograph so many cute kiddos all in one place!!! I have to say it was a lot of fun!! Mosaic Village and Mothering Touch kindly hosted the event, and we had so many parents lined up waiting for their turn! To be honest, I wasn't expecting such a big turn out, given that there are quite a number of mall Santas that people usually go to this time of year. So we had to work very quickly, and we ended up with so many wonderful photos! You be the judge :)

Tea and cupcakes {Victoria BC child photographer}

You should hear my 2-year old squeal every time we enter Crumsby's! It must be one of her most favourite places to visit because not only does she get a cupcake treat, but she also gets to drink tea from tiny teacups! What more could a little girl want?! She's taken after me and has loved tea since she was a few months old. So I let her have it occasionally. I know it's not the norm here, but it's quite common in my culture.
